Why Are LED Indicator Light of Surge Protectors Red in Color?
Most surge protectors typically use red and green as LED light to indicate active status of certain functions. Red color LED light that is on typically means that the surge protection device is in active protection mode and all connected devices are safe from power surges.
Green color LED light is used for grounding status of the A/C line. When the green light is on, it means there is no problem with the grounding of the AC power line.

How Often Do We Need to Replace Surge Protectors?
There is no standard answer to this question. It all depends on the number of hits (power spikes absorption) your surge protection unit has gotten over a period of time.
It largely depends on how many joules the surge protection device has. By and large, the more joules a surge protector has, the more “hit” it will be able to withstand. Typically a surge protector will no longer be in active protection mode when the joules are used up. As such, the red color LED indication light will no longer be on. How to Tell if the Surge Protector is Broken?
The most indicative sign is when there is totally no active LED indicator lights coming from the surge protection unit. When the red LED indicator light of your surge protection device is no longer lighted up, it usually mean that your surge suppressing hero is dead and it’s time to get a new one.
Another telltale sign could be the continuous flickering of the Red LED lighting on the unit. The fact that it is flickering could mean that it has gotten hit recently or it is warning you that it is no longer able to protector all connected devices against power surges.

Will Surge Protector Stop Breakers from Tripping During Power Surges?
The short answer is NO.
Circuit breaker trips whenever there is a circuit overload – an excessive amount of electrical current caused by short circuit, current overload or even ground fault surges. Circuit breaker trips so as to prevent severe damage to electrical wiring belonging to electrical devices which may cause potential fire hazards.
