Best for Rack Mounting

[7] CyberPower CPS1215RMS Review

CyberPower CPS1215RMS Surge Protector, 120V/15A, 12 Outlets, 15ft Power Cord, 1U Rackmount

Most people would argue that Cyberpower CPS1215RMS is strictly for data center or office use because of its mounting brackets by the sides.

I would beg to differ.

Of the many Cyberpower surge protectors I have reviewed, I find that CPS1215RMS is really suitable for both home and office use.

Cyberpower CPS1215RMS can be for home use if you have the right equipment or server rack to house it properly. Most of them are even wall-mountable like this one.

CPS1215RMS comes with 1800 joules and that means it is able to withstand power surges or electrical transients coming from office equipment or household appliances. It is a flat 1U rack height and as I mentioned earlier, it can definitely be used at home if you have the right equipment rack for it.

Of course not every household will have a need for 12 outlets but if you do, this Cyberpower surge protector can be really a space saver when you house it together with other telecommunication equipment like Internet routers, broadband modem, network switches and so on.

What I really like about CPS1215RMS is that it comes with industrial-grade metal housing and a cord retention tray. It would be a great companion for power management devices if you have a home entertainment system at home. 📽📺🎥📡

[8] CyberPower P705G Review

CyberPower P705G Energy-Saving Surge Protector Power Strip, 2100J/125V, 7 Outlets, 5ft Power Cord

If you are an energy-saving enthusiast, you are very likely to be impressed with Cyberpower P705G.

It comes with 7 surge-protected outlets, 4 of which are Eco-friendly. That means whenever the connected device (e.g. Laptop) on the “Master” outlet is shut down, all connected devices plugged into the “Energy-saving” outlets will be turned off too. Thanks to the “Energy-saving Threshold Switch” that does the magic when low power consumption has been detected. 🙂

What I also like is the “Always On” outlet that will allow you to plug in devices that need to be powered on 24 by 7. E.g Internet router.

Try this Cyberpower surge protector for a month and let it save you some cold hard cash. 🤑

Cyberpower Surge Protectors Buying Guide

To help you pick the most suitable surge protector, it is important that you first evaluate your personal requirements and budget prior to getting one.

Below is a listing of surge protector features and specifications to help you decide which of the above-mentioned Cyberpower surge protectors to get – based on your requirements.

You may want to check out our comprehensive buying guide if you are not familiar with the features and functions of surge protection devices.

Core Features & Functions

No. of Outlets

Unless you are like me who has a heap of electronic devices to charge or else you may not want to get surge protectors with more than 8 outlets. If you are required to commute quite a bit in your line of work, getting a surge protector suitable for traveling may be most ideal for you. Such surge protectors typically have only 1 to 3 outlets.

Energy efficient

If your monthly electrical bill is on the high side, you should consider getting surge protectors that come with energy-saving features.

Joule Ratings

While it is definitely not a must to get surge protectors with high joules rating, it is still important to get one with a decent amount if you happen to stay in an area with frequent power issues or lightning.

Transformer-spaced Outlets

Unless you are still using dated machinery and devices at home or in the office. not everyone will require such a feature.

Built-in Automatic Shutdown / Safe-fail Technology

Do note that not every surge protection brand and model in the market offer such a feature. Fortunately, Cyberpower surge protectors do come with a fail-safe feature which is truly a lifesaver for your connected electronic devices whenever a damaging power spike comes along the power line.

Power Filtration – EMI/RFI noise filters

These days, any surge protectors worth their salt will have such a function built-in.

Clamping Voltage/Rating

Simply put, clamping voltage is a surge protection device’s ability to reduce the effect of a power surge to that of a safe and manageable rate. As a general rule of thumb, go for something in between 330 V to 500V.

Response Time

Response time for a surge protector to react to a power spike or surge should ideally be less than a nanosecond. Response time for Cyberpower surge protectors reviewed above is less than 1 nanosecond except for CyberPower CPS1215RMS which is at 1 nanosecond.

USB Charging Ports

If you are a heavy user of USB devices like me, you will definitely want to look out for surge protectors that come with at least 2 USB charging outlets.

Wall Tap

Have space constraints at home? If so, perhaps wall tap surge protection devices may be exactly what you need to save precious real estate on your desktop.

Power Cord Length

This is perhaps one of the most neglected features across surge protectors. Be sure to check the exact cord length you will need before ordering it online.

Impact and Fire Resistant Housing

Though not really a must-have feature, it would not hurt to get one that comes with it, especially if you are a heavy user of electronic devices like me.

Phone, Coaxial and Network Line Protection

Get what you actually need because a surge protector with additional line protection will obviously cost more.

MOV (metal oxide varistor) Technology

This is becoming a rather common function built into most decent surge protection devices.

Built-in Circuit Breaker

Again, you should expect such a feature in most decently built surge protection devices.

Connected Equipment Warranty

If you do not know much about warranties, do get one that offers at least one year of connected equipment warranty. Most Cyberpower surge protectors come with a limited lifetime connected equipment warranty.

Regardless of which models of Cyberpower surge protectors you get, always be sure to get one that really fits your environment and specific needs. For example, if you stay near a lightning-prone area, you should probably get a surge protector with a higher joule rating and response time.

Investing in a surge protection device is really a small price to pay when it comes to protecting all the more costly electronics devices at home or in the office.
